Chapter 20 was a little hard on Ricardo. In the previous chapters, he’d been doing his best in avoiding Brianna just for the sake of not having to be reminded of the good that was pulled out from under him. After being able to elude Brianna, she finally tracked him down and there she was, face to face again with him.
As much as Ricardo knew that he should be distancing himself from her, he ends up inviting her over. Although he’s a little hesitant, he finds himself enjoying the presence of her company again during the family game night.
That is until he sees the text from Jordan and it the hard reality hits him. In his mind, he’s picturing Brianna and Jordan talking and maybe even getting back together again. Even though he knew it shouldn’t matter to him either way, he couldn’t help but feel crushed by the feeling of it all. Of course, we know the truth, but in his heart, it was a wound re-opened. He’s so hurt, we find him again in the bathroom telling himself to just stop and to be stronger because he couldn’t have her. The pain was just too much.
After that, Ricardo knows what he has to do, stay focused, and stay in his lane. He knew it wouldn’t be easy, but it would be the only way to truly get over Brianna. The question then was, would it work?
